Trader Joe’s Increases the Price of Its Notably Affordable Bananas

2024-03-22

Trader Joe’s has been known for selling its bananas at a mere 19 cents—until now. Over the past few years, while prices for many grocery products have soared, one essential item at Trader Joe’s has notably resisted inflation: bananas. These individual bananas, priced at just 19 cents, have gained popularity as one of the retailer’s most exceptional deals. However, in a significant shift, customers are about to face higher prices for these affordable fruits.

In a post, a Trader Joe’s customer mentioned, “my cashier informed me that the price of bananas is increasing, and I can’t blame them,” adding that the employee did not disclose the new price. Several individuals, identifying themselves as Trader Joe’s employees, commented under the post that the grocer intends to start charging 23 cents for individual bananas.

Trader Joe’s did not immediately respond to our inquiries for confirmation and comment on the price increase. However, a Trader Joe’s employee, reached by phone, confirmed that the retailer is raising the price of individual, non-organic bananas from 19 cents to 23 cents. The employee added that the price increase is currently being implemented. This four-cent increase might not appear significant, but it represents approximately a 21% increase over the current price of 19 cents. This is particularly noteworthy given that Trader Joe’s has consistently charged 19 cents for each banana since it began selling them individually.
