The Netherlands is the leading importer of Peruvian bananas

In February 2024, the Peruvian banana sector exported 15,500 tons, representing an increase of +11.2% compared to the same month of the previous year. However, this figure slightly decreased by 4% compared to January 2024. Peruvian banana exports were distributed to 14 different destinations. The Netherlands led the demand with 32.6%, equivalent to 5,050 tonnes. It was followed by Panama and Italy, with 20.7% and 10.8%, respectively, which translates into 3,202 and 1,675 tons. Belgium and the United States were among the top importers, receiving 1,308 and 1,153 tonnes, respectively.

Regarding the diversity of exported bananas, the Cavendish variety was the most dominant at 28.7%, followed by the green variety at 41.9%. Although less representative, the Goldfinger variety contributed 1.1% to the total exported. Most exports corresponded to fresh bananas, with 96.8% of the total, while processed bananas accounted for 3.2%. Among the most prominent exporters were Pronatur S.A.C., with 13.5% of total exports; Agronegocios Los Ángeles S.A.C., with 11.4%; and the Appbosa Agricultural Cooperative, with 8.8%.
