The Burhanpur district administration inaugurated a two-day Banana Festival aimed at enhancing the quality and quantity of the crop. The festival, which is part of the “one district-one product” initiative, provides a platform for selling bananas and setting up industries to produce its byproducts, thereby generating employment opportunities.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his delight over the event on Twitter, stating that the festival is designed to raise public awareness about the marketing, packaging, and processing of various banana products, with a focus on boosting exports. He commended the various activities organized during the festival, including farmer seminars, light and sound shows, cultural events, and heritage walks, expressing hope that these would create memorable experiences for attendees. The festival showcased byproducts made from different parts of the banana plant, including the crops, leaves, tree trunks, and fibre. A principal scientist from the National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB) praised the district’s progress in banana farming and the innovative uses of its fibre. The scientist noted that the festival offered learning opportunities even for experts.

Collector Bhavya Mittal revealed that the NRCB has been approached to teach banana farmers new techniques and technologies to improve the crop’s quantity and quality. This collaborative effort underscores the festival’s commitment to fostering growth and innovation in the banana farming sector.
