Ecuador: MSC transfers operations from Contecon to Bananapuerto
2024-01-12
On December 31, MSC completed its contract with the concession terminal operated by Contecon in the port of Guayaquil. In the future, its operations will go to the private terminal of Bananapuerto in the same port. During 2023, MSC mobilized some 200,000 containers in Contecon, representing about 30% of the total cargo received by this terminal.
Contecon told an Ecuadorian television channel that, for now, they will refrain from commenting on the end of the calls of the shipping line that, between January and October 2023, shipped 23% of the almost 300 million boxes of bananas exported by Ecuador. MSC is the second shipping line to end its operations at that Guayaquil terminal in less than a month after Maersk announced the redirection of three services currently at the port of Guayaquil to the neighbouring facilities of DP World Posorja. This terminal now counts CMA CGM among its users.
