Paraguay: Negotiations Progress to Export Bananas to Chile

2024-01-12

Paraguay has already received a response from the Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) regarding the verification carried out last December on the processes of production, packaging, sampling, analysis and shipment of Paraguayan bananas to enable its market. According to the National Service of Plant and Seed Quality and Health (Senave), the process of achieving the entry of local products into the trans-Andean country is advancing. Chile requested that Paraguay carry out a minimum adaptation of the infrastructure at the packing plant.

The head of Senave, Pastor Emilio Soria, said that once the evidence is sent that the conditions were met, the SAG will proceed to authorize the exports. He assured me that it is estimated that this will take place this January. The representative of the Chamber of Bananas and Pineapples of Paraguay (Capabap) said that the Chilean market represents a significant opportunity for the sector, especially in these times of inconvenience in trade with Argentina.
