A great man and a worthy son of the province of El Oro, this is how María Eugenia Navarrete, executive president of Banco de Machala, described Esteban Quirola Figueroa, who was honoured in recent days with the unveiling of his bust at the headquarters of the financial institution he created 61 years ago, located on nine de Mayo and Rocafuerte streets, in the centre of the capital of Ourense. 

Esteban Quirola Figueroa was born in 1924, and since 1936, from a very young age, he fell in love with agriculture, planting, and cultivating bananas, to later give way to the direct export of his production, and later ventured into the planting and cultivation of various products. 

Amid the applause of those present and visibly moved, Don Esteban unveiled his statue accompanied by his wife, Jenny Quiñónez de Quirola. Guayaquil sculptor Juan Carlos Toral was commissioned to sculpt the bronze bust, which measures 85 cm high by 45 cm wide. 

The solemn ceremony was attended by representatives of the public and private sectors and founding clients of Banco de Machala.
