Ecuador: Approximately 50% of Contracts Between Banana Growers and Exporters
2023-12-29
A few days before the end of 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock informed us that until this Sunday, December 31, producers, marketers, and exporters must submit all contracts and renewals, physical or virtual, through the Single Window.
At the end of 2022, the number of contracts signed was very low, but the number has increased this year. Despite this, only 50% of the bananas are under the umbrella of export contracts, said Richard Salazar, executive director of the Banana Marketing and Export Association (Acorbanec), to the local press.
Salazar stressed that this percentage may increase in the following hours because exporters are willing to sign contracts.
On behalf of the producers, the president of the Association of Banana Producers of the Province of El Oro, Segundo Solano, said that they also have the predisposition to sign contracts and that this Saturday, December 30, they will meet to analyze this issue.
During 2023, the previous government made several decisions due to the need for contract signing, such as eliminating the F Code, which allowed exports without first signing the contract and presenting the document to the ministry.
