Kyrgyzstan's Imports of Bananas from Ecuador Decline

Imported 17,035 tons of bananas from Ecuador from January through September 2023, which is an 11-percent decrease compared to the same period in 2022 (19,239 tons), Trend reports.

According to data from Kyrgyzstan's State Statistical Committee, these imports totalled $10.251 million, representing an eight per cent increase over the same period in 2022 ($9.490 million).

Despite Ecuador remaining Kyrgyzstan's principal banana supplier during these reporting months, Kyrgyzstan also imported bananas from Russia (1,752 tons), Kazakhstan (582 tons), and Turkey (52 tons).

Overall, Kyrgyzstan imported 19,423 tons of bananas from January to September 2023, a 15 per cent decrease over the same period in 2022. The value of these imports fell by 3 per cent year over year, totalling $12.758 million.

Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover totalled $10.790 billion from January to September 2023, a 26.2 per cent rise over the same period in 2022.
