Panama: Blockades and Strikes End After Court Ruling

The reports of road openings in Panama are coming after learning of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) ruling that declared the mining contract unconstitutional, which caused protests by the population for many weeks.
Cargo carriers are already mobilizing in Colón, Chiriquí, and Panama, while in Veraguas, they will already be reopening because they closed again due to a concentration, SNIP Noticias reported.
Antonio García Prieto, from the Association of Land Freight Transport of Panama (Atracapa), indicated that they will be assessing the industry in the coming days.
The ports are full of containers and cargo. Carriers could only move one container every 48 hours when typically three are moved daily. The transfer process took more than 18 hours in Panama when it should have been done in about two hours.
The Colon Free Zone could only operate more effectively in the ports of the Atlantic area rather than with those of the Pacific.
Much of the merchandise to and from Central America was paralyzed, including merchandise for the end-of-the-year holidays that remained in the warehouse. As the transport leader explained, it no longer arrives on time, and many customers still need to receive it. For almost 40 days, the main routes of the logistics chain were closed by groups that opposed the contract between Minera Panama and the Panamanian state.
