DP World Posorja, First in Ecuador to Certify Its Carbon Footprint

2023-11-24

The recognition corresponds to the Ecuador Zero Carbon Program (PECC) of the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, which the company adhered to in 2021, in line with its robust decarbonisation plan.

DP World Posorja is one of the 28 strategic partners of this flagship environmental program, where the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition recognises organisations that quantify, reduce, and offset their CO2 emissions. Through this public-private partnership, efforts to implement practical climate change mitigation actions are consolidated, transforming Ecuador into an essential benchmark in Latin America for decarbonisation.

For its part, DP World Posorja achieved its first achievement within the program: the quantification of the carbon footprint of its port operations after an exhaustive process carried out in conjunction with the prestigious environmental consultancy Sambito and verified by the evaluation body SGS.

This recognition reflects the company's commitment to caring for the environment, becoming the first container port terminal in Ecuador to obtain this recognition, as well as the first DP World port in the region to quantify its CO2 emissions directly and indirectly with the three international standards: Phase 1, 2 and 3.  In this way, the company takes another step forward in its global Decarbonization Strategy, which aims to reduce carbon emissions by 28% by 2030, achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and achieve net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Since the beginning of its operations in Ecuador, the company has begun executing numerous absorption and reduction actions with which, in a short time, more than 35,900 tons of CO2 were avoided.
