In July 2026, Cameroonian banana producers achieved remarkable export success. According to data from the Cameroon Banana Association (Assobacam), the three active exporters shipped a total of 20,577 tonnes of bananas to international markets. This marks a significant increase of 34.1% compared to the 15,336 tonnes recorded in July 2025.

The most substantial growth was seen in the Compagnie des Bananes de Mondoni (CDBM), the second subsidiary of the French group Compagnie fruitière de Marseille. Its exports nearly doubled, surging by 96.6% from 1,685 tonnes in July 2025 to 3,313 tonnes in July 2026, representing an increase of 1,628 tonnes.

The leading producer, Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP), also performed well, shipping 13,577 tonnes. This reflects a 33% increase of 3,369 tonnes, up from 10,208 tonnes the previous year. Together, these two subsidiaries accounted for 16,870 tonnes, or 82% of Cameroon’s total banana exports for July.

The remaining 18% of exports came from the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), the only public operator and the sole producer with national capital since the 2025 acquisition of the assets of Boh Plantations PLC by Compagnie fruitière subsidiaries. As the second largest employer in the country after the public administration, CDC reported exports of 3,687 tonnes, up 7% (or 244 tonnes) from 3,443 tonnes in July 2025.

Bananas continue to be one of Cameroon’s major sources of export revenue. In 2025, international banana sales generated 67.7 billion CFA francs, marking an impressive year-on-year increase of 84.7%, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The results for July 2026 underscore the ongoing strength of this strategic sector, which plays a vital role in providing jobs and generating foreign exchange for the country.
