Lithuania's Limarko Shipping Company has purchased its first bulk carrier, Limarko Norte, from an undisclosed Japanese firm for $20.5 million (€17.99 million). Built in China in 2018, this vessel has a deadweight capacity of 40,000 tonnes, raising the company's total transport capacity from 80,000 to 120,000 tonnes.

While Limarko has primarily focused on container and refrigerated ships—now comprising two reefers and four container vessels in addition to the new bulk carrier—Limarko Norte will operate primarily in the global market, beginning with a maiden voyage transporting grain from Argentina to Ecuador.

Despite the 10% drop in net profit last year to €5.23 million, revenue increased by 4.3% to €23.91 million. The company successfully transported 1.3 million tonnes of cargo, with a significant share moved by its reefer vessels.
