Peru has requested that China open its market to pomegranates and organic bananas during a historic visit by its Minister. Ángel Manero, Peru's Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, formally appealed to the Chinese Government as part of his official meetings aimed at strengthening agricultural cooperation, modernising water management, and promoting Peruvian products in the Chinese market.

During his visit, Minister Manero signed the "Implementation Plan of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Water Resources of China and MIDAGRI of Peru on Cooperation in Water Resources (2025-2028)." This agreement aims to improve water management for the benefit of family farming. It includes technical cooperation in various areas such as irrigation infrastructure, disaster prevention, technological innovation, watershed restoration, and dam management.

In addition to focusing on water management, the visit also resulted in significant progress in agricultural trade. Chinese authorities recognised Peru as a reliable supplier of high-quality fruits, such as blueberries and avocados, and expressed interest in importing new products. Following this, MIDAGRI extended an official invitation to Sun Meijun, the Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), to visit Peru in the coming months to finalise the necessary sanitary protocols for exporting pomegranates and organic bananas.

Peru has enormous potential to supply China with premium-quality agricultural products. We are confident that soon our organic pomegranates and bananas will be available in supermarkets across China," stated Minister Manero during the Investment and Trade Promotion Forum held in Beijing, which included Chinese economic authorities and investment companies.

In addition to promoting these crops, discussions on bilateral trade will continue to advance in the area of meat products, such as poultry and beef, creating new opportunities for both countries.
