A.P. Moller-Maersk reported that it would change the colour of its containers from the traditional grey to the shipping company's characteristic blue. The modification occurred almost five decades after the colouration resulting from the mixture of black and white was introduced.
According to the information released, the measure would be valid for Dry Van cargo containers, but it was not specified that it would be replicated in refrigerated containers, which are usually targets independent of the owner company.
In this context, the Danish company reported that "in 1975, we introduced our first line of containers, the Panama Line, and the grey dry container became a global symbol of Maersk's reliability. Nearly five decades later, our containers are painted to match the colour that encapsulates our more than 120 years of moving customers' cargo."
Sam Poulter, Global Head of Brand and Content at Maersk, commented: "More than a symbol of our brand and heritage, Maersk blue is synonymous with trust. And our containers represent the trust of our customers who have entrusted their products to Maersk."
"As our most visible brand asset, to celebrate that trust, our grey containers will now proudly carry the Maersk blue that is already the hallmark of our iconic ships, aircraft, cranes, trucks, vans and logistics facilities," he added.
