Tunisia: Bananas Return to the Market with Price Caps
2025-04-04

Zouhair Bouziane, the Tunisian Director of Economic Research at the Ministry of Commerce and Export Development, recently announced that the banana market faced supply disruptions, leading to price increases. This situation stemmed from logistical challenges, but the ministry quickly restored supply. In a statement to Mosaïque FM, Bouziane emphasized that the supply of bananas has been closely monitored, from cold storage facilities to wholesale and retail markets.
Significant quantities of bananas were released into the market on March 28, 2025, helping to stabilize prices. Bouziane noted that prices did not exceed the limits set by the ministry, remaining within a range of 7,500 millimes-a monetary subunits of the dinar- per existing price regulations.
In a related context, the director mentioned a slight disruption in the supply of potatoes in recent hours. However, measures have also been implemented to maintain a steady supply of this product at reasonable prices.
This prompt intervention by the ministry aims to prevent price speculation and ensure a stable supply for consumers.
