At the Fruit Logistica fair in Germany, Asbama, representing banana growers in Magdalena, Cesar, and La Guajira, reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable sector development. Asbama's executive president, José Francisco Zúñiga, met with Colombia's ambassador to Germany, Yadir Salazar, to discuss key issues such as safety, logistics, pricing, and sustainability.
Zúñiga emphasized the economic importance of banana cultivation, supporting over 19,000 families. He called for fair prices in European markets to reflect sustainable production efforts.
The discussion also addressed rising production costs due to certification demands and the need for better marketing strategies in Germany. Cooperation with European authorities, especially in port controls, was stressed. Ambassador Salazar supported and suggested a more ambitious trade strategy for Colombian bananas in Europe.
The meeting in Berlin underscored Asbama's dedication to a competitive, responsible sector, with a call for fair pricing and equitable trade policies from importing countries.
