Peru: Fruit and Refrigerated Cargo Expected to Rebound This Year Says APM Terminals Callao
2025-01-24

APM Terminals Callao, operator of the Multipurpose North Terminal, has noted stability in the share of fruit and refrigerated cargo, even as the overall market has declined in recent years. However, expectations for 2025 are more optimistic due to recent agreements to revive this sector.
Peru signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Hong Kong at the end of last year. It established new phytosanitary protocols with the People's Republic of China, enhancing existing trade agreements.
Fernando Fauche, the company's commercial director, stated that the terminal is prepared for any potential fruit or refrigerated cargo increase soon. "Our share of fruit and refrigerated cargo has remained stable at 45% to 48% over the past few years, despite the overall downturn. We have invested in a Reefer Racks system in anticipation of a rebound in this market by 2025," he said.
The Reefer Racks system has increased the terminal's refrigerated cargo storage capacity by more than 34%, expanding from 1,100 to 1,550 electrical outlets. As a result, the Multipurpose North Terminal will be better equipped to handle a larger volume of refrigerated cargo and maintain it in optimal conditions before shipment.
