Maersk Receives Delivery of Methanol-Ready 12,800 TEU Container Ship

2025-01-24

Japan Marine United (JMU) announced the delivery of the methanol-ready, 12,800 TEU container ship, MAERSK EUNAPOLIS, on January 17, 2025. This vessel, built at JMU's Kure Shipyard in Hiroshima Prefecture, is the fourth in a series of five large container ships of the same capacity.

The MAERSK EUNAPOLIS features a Methanol Ready specification to support future use of next-generation fuels and has received the DNV Fuel Ready Notation.

The vessel's design has been optimised for high operational frequency, speed, and draft to maximise efficiency.

According to JMU, the ship incorporates proprietary energy-saving technologies, including a specialised bulbous bow, an advanced fin system, and a unique twisted rudder, all of which contribute to enhanced fuel efficiency. Consequently, the vessel achieves an impressive reduction of more than 50% in its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).
