Maersk Container Industry Lands Significant Deal with Seaboard Marine
2024-09-06
Seaboard Marine has recently unveiled its latest venture in the maritime sector, placing an order for 1,000 Star Cool Integrated Reefers, some of which will feature Star Cool CA (Controlled Atmosphere) technology. This acquisition, managed through the leasing firm Global Container International (GCI), underscores Seaboard Marine's dedication to upgrading its fleet and boosting operational efficiency.
The order also includes Maersk Container Industry's (MCI) Sekstant reefer monitoring system, marking a significant milestone in Seaboard Marine's digital transformation. Sekstant offers real-time monitoring and control of reefer containers and unique OEM features, enhancing operational efficiency and providing essential data for optimising supply chain logistics. This integration is critical to MCI's strategy to drive digitalisation in the reefer container sector.
"We are thrilled to deepen our collaboration with MCI through this investment in Star Cool. These technologies not only enhance our operational efficiency but also align with our sustainability goals by minimising our environmental impact. We are eager to leverage these advancements for the benefit of our customers," stated Frederick Urbina, Director of Fleet Operations at Seaboard Marine.
Seaboard Marine has been a loyal Star Cool customer since 2008, when initial tests of the reefer units showed up to 50% energy savings compared to their existing fleet, laying the groundwork for a long-term partnership. The success of the Star Cool CA system in transporting delicate goods like asparagus and blueberries has further solidified this relationship.
The Star Cool CA technology has significantly improved Seaboard Marine's operations, extending the shelf life of perishable goods. This capability is vital for reducing waste and carbon emissions while ensuring that consumers in the Western Hemisphere receive high-quality produce.
Seaboard Marine, renowned for its extensive network spanning the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America, is also investing in new dual-fuel LNG vessels. These state-of-the-art vessels, set to arrive later this year, are designed to minimise the environmental impact of their shipping operations, support sustainability initiatives, and enhance energy efficiency. This investment aligns with MCI's commitment to providing highly energy-efficient solutions.
This new order and ongoing collaboration highlight Seaboard Marine's confidence in MCI's technology and its shared commitment to innovation and sustainability. As MCI continues to develop and refine its products, the insights and experiences from partners like Seaboard Marine are invaluable.
