Citronex Expand Operations in South America

2024-08-23

Citronex, the Polish banana importing powerhouse, is embarking on an ambitious expansion in South America with a comprehensive multi-year strategy. Currently boasting five state-of-the-art banana ripening facilities across Romania, Poland, and Hungary, Citronex is set to surpass the import milestone of 18 million boxes this year alone. The company's flagship Yellow brand sources premium bananas from esteemed Ecuador, Colombia, Guatemala, and Costa Rica producers.

In a relentless pursuit of excellence, Citronex collaborates with Europe's premier supermarket chains, driving continuous improvement in product quality and safety and fostering higher industry standards and certifications among growers. "Our expansion in South America is a strategic move to support our producers and enhance our operations," reveals Marek Szulc, Citronex's visionary leader.

September 1 marks a significant addition to the Citronex team with the arrival of Daniel Pacheco, a renowned industry expert. Pacheco, who previously orchestrated the Latin American operations for TESCO from 2011 to 2023, brings a wealth of experience from his 13-year tenure overseeing audits, certifications, and the selection of top-tier fruit and vegetable suppliers for the British retail giant.

Pacheco's deep-rooted expertise in the fruit industry extends beyond his auditing understanding; he is also a seasoned banana producer from Costa Rica. "Daniel will be instrumental in working closely with our producers on the ground, ensuring our development plans in Europe are complemented by a robust presence in South America," Szulc adds, underscoring the strategic importance of this new chapter for Citronex.
