Myanmar's Q1 tissue-cultured Banana Exports to China
2024-08-02
In a significant boost to Myanmar's agricultural sector, the country exported over 110,000 tons of tissue-cultured bananas to China in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2024-25. As reported by the state-run media, the Global New Light of Myanmar, this achievement was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Kachin state, located in northern Myanmar, which served as a crucial gateway for these exports.
The report, citing U Aung Lwin Oo, deputy head of Kachin State's Agriculture Department, detailed the monthly exports, showing a promising trend: 77,000 tons in April, over 31,000 tons in May, and a significant increase to over 4,000 tons in June.
Myanmar's tissue-cultured bananas, a unique variety known for their disease resistance and high yield, are cultivated in the townships of Myitkyina, Waingmaw, and Bhamo in Kachin state and the border areas of Kachin state and Sagaing region.
This export surge continues the success of the previous fiscal year when Myanmar exported over 490,000 tons of tissue-cultured bananas to China.
