Contecon Guayaquil: A new paradigm of efficiency in port operations

Maritime ports are essential for global trade, facilitating the transport of a diversity of products internationally. Therefore, the world's largest terminals must implement optimized and well-planned workflows to maximize capacity. Each phase, from docking to delivery, is crucial, as greater operational efficiency translates into an increase in productivity, a decrease in costs, and an improvement in the overall performance of the port. In this scenario, Contecon Guayaquil S.A. (CGSA) stands out for its operational efficiency, setting record times when collecting containers at the terminal. With an average of less than 27 minutes per operation, CGSA has set a new standard in the industry, being recognized as a benchmark in efficiency and safety for logistics solutions. This achievement has been achieved thanks to the implementation of a detailed master plan, which included a rigorous study to optimize the flow of entry and exit from the terminal, as well as the reorganization of the yards. In addition, this planning is reinforced by implementing security protocols, which include separating operational and administrative areas.

Currently, the vehicles entering the terminal move at deficient speed with an average time of 27 minutes per operation. On the other hand, the yellow arrows indicate the circuit designated for loading and unloading operations.

CGSA reconfigured the entry and exit of vehicles, assigning a comprehensive and safe pre-port area with a capacity for 250 trucks, thus guaranteeing the protection and comfort of carriers during their entry. This space is completely enclosed and equipped with security measures, lighting, surveillance cameras, and bathroom facilities and offices for the exclusive attention of carriers.

This implementation ensures a constant and fluid flow from entry to passage through the scanners, which are strategically located to avoid jams. Currently, the terminal has three non-intrusive inspection equipment in operation, with a combined capacity to scan up to 300 vehicles per hour. The project successfully culminated in January of this year. Its implementation benefits CGSA, as the main port of Guayaquil, and brings significant advantages to the entire value chain of foreign trade.

The operational efficiency resulting from this project has a positive impact on exporting and importing companies by reducing logistical costs and improving competitiveness. In addition, by guaranteeing greater reliability and integrity of the cargo, it strengthens commercial relationships and consolidates the port's reputation as a strategic partner in the sector.

In this way, Contecon Guayaquil S.A. reaffirms its commitment to offer top-level port services, boosting efficiency and productivity in the country's logistics chain.
